Lectus: The operating system for reading in Chile _

Lectus: The operating system for reading in Chile _

Lectus connects catalog, loans, and reading tracking. We are building the first system in the world to measure every student's reading level in a country on a common scale.

The core problem

Chile does not have a books problem; it has a reading problem. There are libraries, reading plans, and good intentions, but no shared system connecting everything.

When every library operates like an island, teams cannot tell what each student needs or whether interventions are working.

This currently means

  • Libraries without visibility into each student's reading level
  • Decisions without evidence on which books or interventions work
  • Reading history lost when a student moves to a new school

What Lectus solves today

Lectus digitizes day-to-day library operations and connects them to each student's reading development.

It is not only inventory management: it enables measuring, recommending, and follow-up in a continuous pedagogical loop.

It also includes guided implementation for librarians and teachers, because without adoption there is no impact.

Current capabilities:

  • Catalog and loan management with traceability
  • Reading recommendations based on available level and interest signals
  • Reading motivation and participation tools
  • Book reservation and circulation workflows
  • Low-connectivity operation and integration with existing workflows
  • Training and accompaniment for school teams

Operational loop enabled

Measure → Recommend → Act

From data to pedagogical action

Library connected to the classroom

Daily management with reading focus

Continuous reading progress follow-up

Visibility for school-level decisions

The first country-scale reading measurement

The ambition

We want Chile to be the first country in the world to map every student's reading level on a common scale, comparable with the complexity of the books they read. We know of no equivalent experience at country scale.

Why it matters

National reading map

Aggregated visibility by region, district, school network, school, and grade to support evidence-based decisions.

Country-scale research

Data from millions of students, not small samples: questions that today cannot be answered in Chile.

Replicable model

A methodology that, once validated in Chile, can be adapted to other Spanish-speaking school systems.

Design principles from day one

Change management

Onboarding, certification, and support to ensure real system usage.

Limited connectivity

Offline-first operation and sync for rural and low-connectivity settings.

Accessibility and inclusion

Designed for diverse reading profiles and access barriers.

Operational reliability

Availability, monitoring, and continuity for a critical operation.

School and public coverage

Built for school libraries and also public and community libraries.

Let's build reading with evidence

Lectus helps each library make better decisions with real data, pedagogical support, and sustainable operations.
